RICHIE LAUNCHES JEWELRY LINE

Nicole Richie is set to extend her portfolio of moneymaking ventures: She is launching her own jewelry line.

The reality TV socialite is designing pieces, which will be produced by Mouawad, the exclusive jewelers behind supermodel Heidi Klum's fine jewelry collection, according to People.

And the new mum is ecstatic with the way the production process is going, because she can fit in time for designing as she looks after her newborn daughter, Harlow Winter.

She says, "It's all costume jewelry. I like to play with jewelry and mix and match. (I'm working with) this really talented woman named Shelley Gibbs. She's an artist and she sketches everything.

"Everyone's been really mellow and able to work around my schedule. If I need to go feed the baby, I do it."

As well as the jewelry project, Richie, who already has author, actress and singer on her resume, is launching a children's clothes range in addition to rumors of plans for her own fragrance, reports People.com.

Journeys in downtown Lewes offers new line of jewelry

Journeys in Lewes is offering two new exclusive lines of handcrafted jewelry. Since jeweler Christopher Hahs has joined the staff, Journeys has expanded a line of his spiral pieces.

The spiral is the symbol of the store, said owner Roni LaVache. It is an ancient symbol of many meanings. It signifies the cycle of life, the connection between heaven and earth, knowledge of the self and spiritual growth, she said.

LaVache is excited to have Hahs on board and to be able to offer his spiral variations. “He really is an incredible jeweler,” she said. The two met four years ago after LaVache saw a women wearing one of Hahs’ necklaces and asked who had made it. “I was stunned by it; it was gorgeous,” LaVache said. At that time, the store needed a jeweler to work on a line of jewelry centered on its signature symbol. Hahs began with simple spirals but has begun to create new and different ways to incorporate them into bracelets and necklaces.

Each piece is handmade, so while some may be similar in design, each piece is entirely unique.

Hahs has more than 16 years’ experience as a jeweler, completing an apprenticeship at Stuart Kingston Gallery in Wilmington and later working with other jewelry artists to learn different techniques. Among them is a folk method for making jewelry out of sheets of metal and wires from an artist who had studied in Europe.

In addition to Hahs’ work, Journeys is offering a line of jewelry called Be, created by LaVache and her partner Sarah-Jean Douglas, both of whom are learning silversmithing. The Be line is crafted from precious-metals clay. The artists form the pieces working as they would with clay. After the piece is fired, it emerges from the kiln as 99.9 percent sterling silver. “The theme of Be is: Don’t strive for perfection, just strive to be,” said LaVache.

Hahs said he enjoys working in Lewes. “In this small-town setting, you depend on the community and what you put back into it. This store is based on friendship when clients walk in the door, not on sales,” he said.

Hahs is available for all types of jewelry repair, including platinum and gold pieces. He can also custom-design jewelry and incorporate stones as well.

Swarovski Presents a New Jewelry Line

souloftime1.jpg
Swarovski is ready to present a new collection for the autumn/winter 2007 season called Soul of Time: The Epic of Light. It was showcased this past August in Malta, and is not available on the company's web site through a pretty cool slideshow. The collection has some asymmetrical angles and gives a feeling of sort a fairy gone goth a little to me. The creative director explains them as follows:

Nathalie Colin Roblique, Swarovski's Creative Director said, "A study in asymmetry, a search for slightly savage effects, and a desire for irregularity that satisfies a need for authenticity and truth... I wanted to create versatile and nomadic jewellery that never stops moving.

"Alive and sensual," she added, "these jewels can be rolled up or draped. Their fringes echo human gestures and move with the body. Some jewels appear to be abstract sculptures - somewhere between jewellery and art objects - but they are neither narrative nor realistic."

Ivanka Trump Sparkles With Jewelry Line

Many people recognize Ivanka Trump as the daughter of famous parents, real estate billionaire Donald Trump and international jetsetter Ivana Trump.

But she has also made a name for herself, briefly as a model and more recently as a businesswoman with the family company. Now she's launching a project of her own, a jewelry line that bears her name. It was a chance for her to combine her business expertise with her love for all that sparkles.

"My mother, she's always loved jewelry," Trump told The Early Show co-anchor Julie Chen. "That's something she definitely passed on to me. I never thought of it as a business. I always thought of it as just for fun, but it's great when you can combine those two things."

Trump, 25, opened her first boutique on 62nd Street and Madison Avenue and will soon be opening boutiques in Las Vegas and Japan. The inspiration for this very expensive jewelry line is none other than her mother.

"Much to the chagrin of my father and all subsequent boyfriends of my mother, she's always loved jewelry," Trump said. "That's something she definitely passed on to me."

Trump's pieces range in price $750 to several million dollars. The line contains engagement rings, earrings, necklaces and bracelets. She showed Chen a white agate cocktail ring that costs around $4,000, as well as an engagement ring that cost $2.5 million.

"I have been having fun with the design pieces," she said. "We did a lot with tassels, so the earrings I'm wearing are part of our collection. We (went) with a diamond necklace bracelet over there. It's what appeals to my mother's friends, my age friends, really across the spectrum. There's really a range within our line, and we wanted that so that everyone of all ages could really afford our pieces."

Trump, who was recently featured on a sexy cover of Harper's Bizarre, is also moving up in her father's company. She was recently named director of Trump gaming company in Atlantic City. She also serves as the vice president of development and acquisitions and enjoys her roles as business mogul and sex symbol.

"Now that I have my feet wet, or my whole body wet, I'm much more confident," she said. "I can have a little fun with that duality and do something like take a picture like that without being too self-conscious."
