Orlando, Fla.—Morays Jewelers of Miami was named among the Outstanding Florida Retail Leaders by the Florida Retail Federation (FRF) during a luncheon celebrating the 2007 winners of the Retailer of the Year Award for Leadership (ROYAL).
The event was held in conjunction with the University of Florida's acclaimed "Retailing Smarter" symposium at the Rosen Shingle Creek Resort in orlando on June 7. In its 9th year, the ROYAL program recognizes retailers who combine astute business skills with a commitment to their customers, communities, employees and the state's retail industry.
"From the largest cities to the smallest towns, retailers are vital to the social and economic landscape of our state," FRF's president and chief executive officer Rick McAllister said in a statement. "Our outstanding ROYAL recipients reflect just a few of Florida's many retailers who are at the forefront of goodwill efforts that directly benefit the citizens and communities in which they live and do business."
Morays is a sixth-generation family-owned business that specializes in high-end jewelry and carries more than 30 brands. The upscale 10,000-square-foot store serves multigenerational customers as well as Miami's rich and famous.
The FRF honored its president, Sandy Hequin, who grew up in the jewelry business and opened her own store in 1985. She then purchased the family business from her grandfather in 1994. Hequin is a respected industry figure who serves as a consultant to various vendors and supports local charitable organizations including the Coconut Grove Playhouse, the United Way, the Miami Heat Charitable Fund and the Miami Morays arena football team.
